Supported platforms
The map is available in two forms. The fully interactive (dynamic HTML)
version is served to supported browsers (currently Windows versions of
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4+ and Mozilla 5+). All
other browsers receive a basic version of the map, ensuring
compatibility with the maximum number of users' equipment.
Software
The interactive map has been developed using
perl 5 (for server-side programming),
javascript (for client-side programming, compressed to reduce download times) and
mySQL (chosen for its fast database access).
The map images are created on demand by GD.pm, a port of Thomas Boutell's brilliant gd graphics library
libgd.
GD.pm interface is copyright 1995-1999, Lincoln D. Stein.
